2nd Facilitation Skills Workshop February 2007
Connecting Environmental Professionals is pleased to announce a
second Facilitation Skills Workshop with Charles Holmes. Participants
of the previous Facilitation Skills Workshop held by CEP gave excellent
feedback and highly recommended this workshop to other environmental
professionals. During the one-day workshop, you will acquire the
skills to improve each stage of a meeting and tools to bring out
the best in the groups you are working with.
When: Thursday, February 8th 2007, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Where: SFU Harbour Centre (downtown), 515 West Hastings Street ,

New Year Speaker Event: Sustainability Goals for the 2010
Games
Speaker: Featuring Tina Symko, Sustainability Coordinator, VANOC
Topic: The integration of sustainability into VANOC, the organization,
and Whistler VANOC venues.
When: Tuesday, January 30, 2007. Registration: 6:30pm. Tina will
begin speaking at 7:15pm.
Where: Location TBA, depending on our RSVP numbers
Cost: Admission to our speaker series costs $5 for members and
$10 for non-members.

2006 Summer BBQ
Connecting Environmental Professionals will be holding our annual
summer BBQ with Green Drinks, BC Sustainable Energy Association,
and UBC and SFU NetImpact on July 19th, 2006 from 6:30pm onwards
at Jericho beach. Join local cyclists, sustainable transport enthusiasts,
and other green-minded folks in some outdoor fun - interesting demonstrations,
prizes...and surprises. Guitars and other instruments are welcome!
When: Wednesday, July 19th 6:30pm onwards

Working effectively with aboriginal people Workshop
Connecting Environmental Professionals is pleased to bring you
an Aboriginal Peoples’ awareness /cross cultural training
session - Working Effectively with Aboriginal People. Bob Joseph
of Indigenous Corporate Training and Cole Rheaume of Mi’kmwesu
Management will facilitate this one-day workshop to help you work
more effectively with Aboriginal Peoples.
Normally $349 + tax per session, Mr. Joseph and Mr. Rheaume are
generously offering this workshop to CEP members and friends at
a reduced rate ($99 for CEP members and $149 for non- members).
If enhancing your ability to establish effective relationships
with First Nation peoples is important to you, you will not want
to miss this workshop.

Event: Vision 20/20: Sustainability Through the Eyes of
Emerging Leaders
Date: Thursday March 30, 2006 3:30-5:00pm
Description: It has been almost 20 years since the release
of the Bruntland report, Our Common Future, and consequently, many
of today’s young environmental professionals have grown up
with the concept of sustainable development. This session will entail
an engaging discussion on the future of sustainability as perceived
by today’s emerging leaders. Justin Trudeau will be facilitating
and panellists will include Karun Koernig (Manager, Environmental
Youth Alliance), Alice Miro (Strategic Initiative Intern, Learning
Exchange, UBC), and Diane Zimmerman (Manager, Issue Management &
Stakeholder Engagement, Suncor Energy Inc.).

Event: CEP/YEP National Pub Night
Date: Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 5:30pm
Description: CEP and YEP will be holding our national pub
night event after the CEP/YEP armchair session at Globe 2006. All
CEP and YEP members and friends are invited to this rare and exciting
event, where CEP and YEP members across
Canada will get to meet
each other. Appetizers will also be served and there is no cost.

Event: Dr. Mark Jaccard, speaking about the future of fossil
fuels.
Date: Wednesday January 25th, 6:30pm. Dr. Jaccard
will speak at 7pm.
Description: Dr. Jaccard is a professor in the
School of Resource and Environmental Management
at Simon
Fraser University where he directs the
Energy and Materials Research Group. His latest book is Sustainable
Fossil Fuels: The Unusual Suspect in the Quest for Clean and Enduring
Energy.

Event: Green Holiday Party
Date: Monday, December 12th from 6pm onward
Description: CEP, Green Drinks, SFU Net Impact, and
BCSEA invite you to us in celebrating a low-impact holiday season
in high-impact style. The party will be a fundraiser with
entertainment, prizes…and more! Entrance by donation
with all proceeds going to support BEST (Better Environmentally
Sound Transportation). We will also be collecting for a local
food bank so please bring along non-perishable food items.

Institute of Governance Studies at
Simon Fraser
University are co-hosting a debate amongst the three main
British Columbia political parties. The debate
will address sustainability, stewardship, resource management and
environmental protection in
British Columbia .
